What are we?
-Aritri Anushka Ahsan
What are we but empty vessels
enriching ourselves along the way,
Painting our ecstasies with borrowed colours,
Soaking in other’s suns in our undivided skies?
What are we but revelers of the same ship
with divergent goals but convergent destinations,
with contrasting euphoria but resembling symphonies?
What are we but the two corner strings of a guitar-
poles apart but equally essential in creating harmonies?
What are we but living in this song called life
discovering its genre at every step of our way,
getting lost in its vibrant tragedies
only to find ourselves again
What are we but insignificant crumbs-
meaningful only when left behind in someone else’s box
What are we but insignificant crumbs-
Yearning for touch, warmth, gasping for breath
What are we but springs and winters,
Dawns and dusks,
Moons and the suns- all rivaling within ourselves,
mutually exclusive oxymorons
What are we but the Universe itself
What are we?
